Here is nearly everything you need to hold your own Spelling Bee. The spelling lists relate to famous children's books so it could be held during a Book Week. You will need a microphone. It is also worth having a cup made for each year group and having each winner&'s name engraved on it. We are shortly holding our first one. I think we will put the words from the lists for each year group in separate hats and have rounds where they individually come up and have to spell the word, by using letter names, speaking into the microphone. This game focuses on onomatopoeia, rhyme, alliteration and personification. The rules are simple and explained in the file. All I know is that children of all ages love a bingo game! PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

Use this to test the children to see which list they need to start on. These are differentiated spelling lists for a first or middle school, and there is a file here which explains exactly how it could work in your school. It means each child has exactly the right spelling list for them regardless of age. This was a very popular resource with over 100 ratings and 5 stars. Lots of schools have adopted it and I've had very positive feedback from teachers, but took me all summer to make and so I thought I'd start to charge for it. It encourages independence as the children test each other at the end of the week. There are enough spelling lists on one A4 sheet to last a term. The lists start with cvc words and phonic sounds, progressing to very challenging words. They also contain all the High Frequency Words. There are free assessment sheets in another resource to work out which sheet each child starts at. Also hold Spelling Bees! (see my free resources for this!)

This resource links to my other resource 'Egyptian Adventure Story on Smartboard&'. Once they have learned and imitated that story they are ready to write their own.PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! This is a very visual resource with lots of pictures of characters and treasures to help them generate interesting ideas. This resource works best when taught in the style of Pie Corbett (learn, imitate, innovate) The boxing up chart helps them to structure their story in 5 clear paragraphs.

You need to have Smart board software to access this lesson as it is all on the slides. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! There is a drama activity first where the children act out what they would do if there was an air raid. There are sound effects to play as they do this. Make the classroom as dark as possible. Then there is a structured poem that they can create based on their experiences and what they heard.

Follow the Smartboard-The children pick their favourite Kandinsky painting and then work with children in teams, who also chose the same fave painting as them, to do a presentation to explain why it is their favorite. The SB doc contains vocabulary which you can encourage them to use. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! There is also a maths link on here so they can make a class graph of their favourite painting and answer questions on this.

A Power point to help teach the vowels and when to use an. Learn what the vowels are through a song to the tune of 'bingo was his name&'. There is an activity explained at the end where the children can make a simple book about it.PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

This Smart board introduces The Globe theatre and includes photos and interesting facts about it. The children could do some writing afterwards, including some of the new facts they have found out. They could draw the outside or inside the theatre and label it. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

There are some simple rules to follow which I have included in a word document. You only need one board -the same one- for each child. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! You can change the names on the board to the children you teach. They really enjoy this and it makes grammar a bit more fun!!

This is a comprehension sheet about the dragon poem 'Troglodytic Owner-Occupier' by Nick Toczek. (The poem is on the sheet). It is suitable for year 5 and 6 but the HA one is definitely for Year 6. It focuses on alliteration, rhyme, repetition, rhythm, similes and personification. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

If you have never tried philosophy before these lessons are a good starting point! The children really enjoy these discussions/debates! Based on ideas from Philosophy 4 children everything is explained in the lesson plans. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! The children sit in a circle and take turns to discuss what they think the answer to the question is-saying whether they agree or disagree with another child. They improve their listening, speaking and reasoning skills and learn that there is not always one right answer to a question.

This is for year 3 or 4 to help develop their understanding of Egyptian Gods and reading comprehension skills at the same time. The reading comprehensions are differentiated on 4 levels.\nPlease leave feedback!

'The Day the dragons won the lottery&' by Nick Toczek. (The poem is on the sheet too) Suitable for Year 5 and 6.A comprehension asking the children to comment on the content and devices used in the poem, including alliteration, rhyme and repetition. Two levels of difficulty with answer sheets. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

In the style of Pie Corbett I have created a simple story, in five paragraphs, for the children to learn off by heart by adding their own actions. Create a picture map to help remember it (There is an example on the Smartboard of one). Then the children 'hug&' the text by using the story from the sheet to write their own version by changing names and key words (the words to change are underlined and there are gaps for them to add their own words.) I have created a separate resource where they write their own adventure story from scratch, which follows on from this.

This is an ideal way to introduce young children to The Tempest. I have found suitable pictures of the characters and it explains the plot simply. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

This is a great activity to do at the beginning of the year-makes a great display. This Smart board introduces acrostic poems to the children and has lots of adjectives they could use to describe themselves. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! The children could type them out on to the computer once they have written them in rough.
